Expect...Christmas in the Barn Saturday, Dec. 24 2011

This will be our 6th season of Christmas in the Barn. It's a simple, Christmas Eve service held here at the farm, led by Pastor David Newman of Lord of Love Lutheran Church, beginning at 4:30 pm on 12/24/11. It's intimate, it's acoustical, there are live animals, and it can put you in the right frame of mind for whatever you do for the rest of the evening. Although the barn is heated, please dress for a cool climate. We will be serving light refreshments and hot beverages so it's helpful to know how many to plan for. If you'd like to register as a guest, please visit this link:

Christmas in the Barn 2011

There is no charge for this service; it is our gift to you and your family. We will be accepting donations to help support Lord of Love's Wednesday Night DInners which feed the homeless and hurting members in our community.

Electronic Kitchen Winner

Here's a picture of Grandpa Winn, picking up the electronic kitchen donated by US Toy for the raffle this fall. Little Morgan is going to be so happy when she opens this up. Thanks US Toy for providing this fun item!

Pumpkin Popper captured in action

A customer named Aaron Beck captured Jim Johnson blowing off some steam, or shall we say, some pumpkins. Super cool shot! Thanks for sharing!

Vegetable Gleaning Event participants

The Decker Family came out today with intentions of pumpkin harvesting and playground fun. Dad came too! Mom listened to the details of the gleaning event, and decided that sure was a good deal, headed out to the vegetable field and discovered how much fun she and her family were having, then she asked if they could come back tomorrow! Here's their first go at vegetable harvesting; not bad at all, boys!

UPDATE: NO GLEANING NEEDED ON FRIDAY: REGULAR ADMISSION POLICY WILL BE IN EFFECT

Flower Girls

It's been awhile since I've taken a photo of such nice girls having fun in nature. These girls weren't far behind their parents when I asked if I could capture their harvest for the webpage. Hope these flowers remind you this week of your time on this beautiful fall day in KC.

Thanks for coming out! (oh, and the royalties? We'll have to talk to your agent, I guess?)

Gnathan the Gnome is back today, Saturday, 10/15

Where's Gnathan the Gnome? I don't know, I don't know! But if you find him, tap him on the back and ask, "Are you Gnathan the Gnome?" and he'll reward your efforts with a small prize...

Second Litter born on Tuesday!

For those of you season pass holders, or who have not yet visited, our second sow has had her litter of 14 piglets. Stop in quietly to the piglet barn to check them out. THEY ARE SO CUTE! But be nice and quiet...shhhhhhh.

Somebody topped Andrew today!

Donna of Container Creations hunted, harvested and hauled in all five of these wheelbarrows today. (Okay, so that would've been quite an impressive feat! She had some help from us farmhands at the end.) Somebody's doorstep is the intended location for most of these. It was nearly 600 lbs. of pumpkins. What a dame! If you want the big ones, don't wait too long before you come to harvest. Open Mon-Fri, Noon to 6 pm; Sat and Sun, 9 am to 6 pm.

Cider Slushies in a pumpkin sipper

Evidently this drink is so delicious that you don't put it down even if you're getting your picture taken. Aurora said "Cheese" with the straw still stuck between her teeth! Glad you had a good day here, Aurora!

Visit to Boys Grow

We finally had a chance when both our and Boys Grow schedules met up, so we took a drive out to KCK to take a look at their operation and hand over the check that our customers in July made possible during our blow out benefit. These boys along with the help of two mentors planted, tended and are now harvesting tomatoes, peppers, herbs and even sweet corn! They hope to manufacture a Boys Grow line of salsa and learn to market the product. Click here to see the NBC action News piece.

Keep up the good work, boys!

The secret is out…Johnson's is the place for quality, selection, service and price!

The Johnson Family has been in the farming business for over thirty years, and we’re excited about sharing the beauty of our 140 acre farm with you. For Fall 2010, we will be presenting a plentiful harvest from 60 acres of pumpkins and decorative produce, as well as hardy mums. We are a greenhouse in the spring, a summer produce purveyor in the summer and a pumpkin patch in the fall. We’re proud of our family farm and want to share our enthusiasm with you. The Johnson Farm provides your family an opportunity to escape to the country and take pleasure in nature’s bounty. We look forward to seeing you time and time again.
